Bela-Bela Draws Well For Durban July

Friday, 24th June 2016

Star filly Bela-Bela (Dynasty-Mystic Spring, by Royal Academy) is likely to be promoted to outright favouritism for South Africa's most prestigious race, the R4.25 million Gr1 Durban July, after drawing ideally in barrier three at the official barrier draw function at the Theatre Of Champions, reports SA Horseracing. The 3YO daughter of Dynasty has stamped herself as one of the most exciting horses in the country with 4 wins from 6 starts, including a brilliant last-start victory in the Gr1 Woolavington 2000 Stakes (2000m) at Greyville. On that occasion champion jockey Anthony Delpech paid Bela-Bela a huge compliment when he labelled her the second best filly he has ever ridden next to champion filly and former South African Horse of the Year Igugu. The Australian-bred Igugu (Galileo) won 10 of her 18 starts including the 2011 edition of the Durban July. The Gr1 Durban July (2200m) will be run at Greville racecourse on Saturday week (2 July).
