Sheidel Wins Gr3 Sensis Stakes

Monday, 31st October 2016

At Flemington in Melbourne, dual Gr1-winning former Coolmore shuttler Holy Roman Emperor (Danehill-L'On Vite, by Secretariat) added a Group success when 5YO mare Sheidel (Holy Roman Emperor-Laventour, by Metal Storm) scored by 0.1 length for trainers David & Ben Hayes & Tom Dabernig in the $200,000 Gr3 Sensis Stakes (1100m) for 3YO+, over 5YO mare Wild Rain (Manhattan Rain-North Flower, by Rory's Jester) & 7YO mare Private Secretary (Husson-Secretaire, by Danehill). The former Perth-trained Sheidel boosted her already impressive record to 14 wins (including the Gr3 Cape Grim Beef Steaks, Listed Bel Esprit Stakes, Listed Summer Scorcher Stakes, Listed RS Crawford Stakes & Listed Jungle Mist Classic) and 5 placings (including the Gr1 SAJC Robert Sangster Classic) from 24 starts for $1,044,450 earnings. Trainer David Hayes said Sheidel will back up in Saturday's Gr1 Darley Classic if she pulls up well from her latest win. "I think she is Group One class and the Darley isn't shaping up like the race we thought it was going to be, so we'll see how she pulls up and if she pulls up well then we'll run her," Hayes told racing.com. "She's just a little fighter. When she has lost she's often been genuinely unlucky so I think she's a Group One filly and she'll get her chance to prove that she is."
