Failed Stallion Preparing For Return

Tuesday, 17th January 2017

Well related sprinter Il Cavallo (Choisir-Gold Chant, by El Moxie) is being prepared for a return to racing after a failed start to his stud career, reports NZ Racing Desk. The son of Choisir, who is a three-quarter brother to 4-time Gr1 winner and dual hemisphere winning sprinter and sire Starspangledbanner, was purchased from Australia by brothers Mark Fraser-Campin and Chris Campin in 2015 to stand at their Chequers Stud from 2016. However, the dual stakes winner soon displayed an unfortunate family trait. "He's basically infertile, he only got three mares officially in foal," Fraser-Campin said. "Obviously, it was a disaster of a season for us. We had 80 mares booked to him so we would like to thank all those breeders for their support and patience during what was a tough and disappointing time for all concerned." He added: "Starspangledbanner also suffered from fertility issues, and only covers a limited book, so maybe it's something in the family." Il Cavallo is set to trial in February and be aimed at the feature sprints in the autumn. A trip to Brisbane for the Queensland winter carnival is also a possibility.
