Freshman Sires To Make Karaka 2017 Debut

Meanwhile, Karaka 2017 will also showcase the first yearling crops of 18 exciting new sires from throughout Australasia, including:

  • Camelot (Montjeu) - 4-time Gr1 winner of the English Derby, Irish Derby, English 2000 Guineas and Racing Post Trophy.
  • Dawn Approach (New Approach) - 4-time Gr1 winner of the English 2000 Guineas, Dewhurst Stakes, National Stakes and St James's Palace Stakes.
  • Declaration Of War (War Front) - Dual Gr1 winner of the Queen Anne Stakes and Juddmonte International Stakes.
  • Dundeel (High Chaparral) - 6-time Gr1 winner of the Australian Derby, Randwick Guineas, Rosehill Guineas, Spring Champion Stakes, Queen Elizabeth Stakes & Underwood Stakes.
  • Epaulette (Commands) - Dual Gr1 winner of the Doomben 10,000 and Golden Rose.
  • Fiorente (Monsun) - Dual Gr1 winner including Melbourne Cup.
  • Shamus Award (Snitzel) - Gr1 Cox Plate winner.
  • Fighting Sun (Northern Meteor) - Unbeaten colt out of Gr1 winner Irish Darling.

Another freshman sire to watch out for is Windsor Park Stud’s Shamexpress (O’Reilly), winner of the 2013 Gr1 Newmarket Handicap and placed in another three Gr1 sprints. Shamexpress has 19 yearlings catalogued for the Premier session - the most of any first season sire this year - and includes Lot 356, a half-sister to Singapore's latest star Debt Collector.

Others include Ferlax, Sizzling, Spirit Of Boom, Sweet Orange, The Factor, Unencumbered and Zoustar.

The NZB National Yearling Sales Series will take place from 30 January – 5 February at Karaka.
