Xtravagant Spot On For Telegraph

Tuesday, 17th January 2017

The Te Akau Racing team is confident that Xtravagant can bounce back to his brilliant best in Saturday's Gr1 Telegraph (1200m) at Trentham, reports theinformant.co.nz. Xtravagant (Pentire-Axiom, by Zabeel), who registered two stunning 8-length victories in the Gr1 NZ 2000 Guineas and Gr1 Waikato Sprint as a 3YO, was a shadow of his former self in his two Australian starts in the spring, finishing towards the tail of the field in both the Gr2 Bobbie Lewis Quality and the Gr1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes in Melbourne. "He's 100 per cent, everything has gone to plan," said Stephen Autridge, who trains the 4YO in partnership with Jamie Richards. "Opie (jockey Opie Bosson) will be coming down to gallop him in the morning [Tuesday]; that should top him off nicely." Xtravagant will carry equal top weight of 58kg with Gr1 Railway winner Start Wondering under the set-weight and penalty conditions of Saturday's sprint feature.
