Karaka Graduate Debt Collector Crowned Singapore HOTY
New Zealand-bred galloper Debt Collector (Thorn Park-Prompt Payment, by In the Wings) confirmed his star status when sweeping five awards - including the coveted Singapore Horse of the Year title - at Tuesday night's 2016 Singapore Racing Awards, reports the Singapore Turf Club. The 4YO enthralled Kranji with his devastating turn of foot at all his six wins, including the last two legs of the Singapore 3YO Challenge and the first two legs of the Singapore Triple Crown Series to make it three Gr1 wins for the season - namely the Singapore Guineas, Kranji Mile and Raffles Cup. Raced by Victorian owners Barree Stable, Debt Collector was unsurprisingly voted the Champion 3YO while his two wins over the metric mile in the Guineas and the Kranji Mile earned him the Champion Miler accolade. To cap off a memorable night, he also grabbed the Most Improved Horse and Social Media Horse of the Year awards. Debt Collector went through the Karaka sale ring twice, fetching $30,000 as a yearling before being offered by Prima Park at the 2014 NZ Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale where he was purchased by his trainer Cliff Brown for $120,000. A Shamexpress half-sister to Debt Collector will be sold as Lot 356 at the 2017 NZB Premier Sale. Other Karaka graduates to win awards on the night were Well Done (Champion 4YO), Lim's Racer (Champion 2YO), Bahana (Champion Stayer), and Spalato (Champion Polytrack horse).
