Oaks Winner Ready For Trentham Return

Thursday, 19th January 2017

Fanatic (Shocking-Komplete Klass, by Groom Dancer) has bounced back quickly from a recent health scare to remain on target for further black-type honours at Trentham this weekend, reports NZ Racing Desk. Saturday's Gr3 Wellington Cup contender suffered from cardiac arrhythmia when she finished out of the money in the Gr3 City of Auckland Cup at Ellerslie on New Year's Day. "She's come through it all well. We had her checked the day after and she was fine and we've checked her continually since and there's no problems," said Debbie Sweeney, who prepares the daughter of Shocking with her father Graeme Sanders. "She got a bump at the start of the race so she still didn't go badly. She didn't finish off like we know she can so at least we had a reason why." The 4YO mare, who won the New Zealand Oaks on her last visit to Trentham, endured a disappointing spring when a spider bite ruled her out of the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups. On her return, she was unplaced in the Gr2 Cal Isuzu Stakes before she produced a dominant performance over ground to win at Te Rapa prior to her last-start eighth placing behind St Jean at Ellerslie.
