Valuable Colt Set For Debut

Friday, 20th January 2017

Eden Roc, a three-quarter brother to dual Group winner and Gr1-placed sprinter Star Turn, is set to make his debut in the Australian Fire Hose Plate (1000m) at Royal Randwick tomorrow. Trained by Team Hawkes, Eden Roc was purchased by astute bloodstock judge Alan Bell for $750,000 at last year's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Widden Stud. Like Star Turn, Eden Roc will carry Bell's distinctive grey and red diagonal striped silks made famous by gallopers such as champion Grand Armee, outstanding grey sprinter Schillaci, as well as Deep field and Primacy. "He's a lovely horse," co-trainer Wayne Hawkes told Racing.com. "He's Star Turn's three-quarter brother and they paid a lot of money for him. The wraps are on him and I just hope he can get the job done." Hawkes said he hoped Eden Roc could emerge as a contender for next month's Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes in Melbourne. "He's done everything right. He'll be in the finish somewhere about and we are very happy and privileged to be training him," he said. Eden Roc is by Gr1-winning sprinter Star Witness out of the talented but injury prone mare Hilton Head (Fastnet Rock), a half-sister to Star Turn as well as Gr1-placed Hong Kong sprinter Straight Gold.
