Marsupial Blue Diamond Bound

Monday, 23rd January 2017

Godolphin trainer John O'Shea has big plans for the aptly named Marsupial following the colt's smart debut win at Canterbury Park on Friday night. A homebred for Darley by Street Cry out of the stakes winning Exceed And Excel mare Koala Bear, Marsupial raced right up to his impressive trial form to post a stylish 2.3 length win in the Tab Rewards Handicap over 1200 metres. O'Shea holds the 2YO in such high regard that a shot at next month's Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes is on the agenda. "He's a lovely horse. We think quite highly of him," O'Shea told Sky Racing. "We'll give some consideration to where he ends up, he might even find his way down to Melbourne for the Prelude (Blue Diamond Prelude)." The Gr3 Blue Diamond Prelude for colts & geldings (1100m) will be run at Caulfield on 11 February, two weeks before Victoria's richest juvenile race - the $1.5 million Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m). Marsupial hails from the family of Gr1 West Australian Derby winner Guyno, New Zealand Oaks winner Legs, Gr1 Arrowfield Stud Stakes winner Sixty Seconds, and multiple Group-winning New Zealand mare Arletty.
