Northwest Passage Wins Listed Hobart Guineas
At Hobart in Tasmania yesterday, Coolmore Stud stallion and former Australian Champion Racehorse So You Think (High Chaparral-Triassic, by Tights) added a black-type success when 3YO gelding Northwest Passage (So You Think-Danevade, by Danehill) bounded clear for an arrogant 7.5 length win for trainers Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott in the $100,000 Listed Hobart Guineas (2100m) for 3YOs, over 3YO filly Life On The Wire (Pluck-Our Seventh Heaven, by Vettori) & fellow 3YO gelding Trusted Warrior (Trusting-Accepted, by More Than Ready). Northwest Passage, who was passed in for $140,000 at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Newgate Farm, advanced his record to 3 wins from 4 starts for $119,000 earnings. Stable representative Neil Paine said Northwest Passage would remain in Tasmania for the Tasmanian Derby on Friday week (3 February). Northwest Passage is out of the Gr2-placed mare Danevade, a full-sister to multiple Group winner Shania Dane and champion Hong Kong sprinter Scintillation.
