Omei Sword To Trial Friday

Monday, 23rd January 2017

Trainer Chris Waller has confirmed that high class filly Omei Sword (High Chaparral-Irish Lights, by Fastnet Rock) will trial at Randwick on Friday, reports AAP. The 3YO was a brilliant first-up winner of the Gr2 Silver Shadow Stakes in the spring, before ending her campaign with an excellent second to Astern in the Gr1 Golden Rose. She is scheduled to open her autumn campaign in the Gr2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on 11 February. "She will trial at the end of the week," Waller said. "We've still got a bit of time up our sleeve so she will go to Randwick." He added: "Her Group One target is the Coolmore Classic which she will go to third-up after the Light Fingers Stakes over 1200 metres and then the Surround over 1400." Omei Sword resumes on the same day that champion mare Winx returns in the Gr2 Apollo Stakes (1400m). From the Gr1 Thousand Guineas winner Irish Lights, Omei Sword is a direct descendant of the US-bred mare Change Water, dam of Gr1 winner and outstanding producer Fall Aspen. This is the family of successful sires Bianconi, Fort Wood, Timber Country and Hamas, as well as Gr1 winners Elnadim, Mehthaaf and the great Dubai Millennium.
