Savaria Wins Gr3 Wellington Cup

Monday, 23rd January 2017

At Trentham in New Zealand, Waikato Stud's Cox Plate winning stallion Savabeel (Zabeel-Savannah Success, by Success Express) added a Group success when 5YO mare Savaria (Savabeel-Amathea, by O'Reilly) scored by a half head for trainer Roydon Bergerson in the NZ$250,000 Gr3 Wellington Cup (3200m) for 3YO+, over 4YO gelding Jacksstar (Zed-Star Guest, by Pentire) & 7YO mare Perfect Start (Perfectly Ready-Artemesia, by Peintre Celebre). While Savaria's form has been largely patchy in between times, trainer Roydon Bergerson had been in a confident pre-Cup mood, reports NZ Racing Desk. "It's a great feeling and we've had a few knockers, but she's a very good mare and her lead-up runs had all been good," he said. Savaria, who was a NZ$110,000 purchase at the 2013 NZB Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Bluegables Farm, advanced her record to 5 wins (including the Gr1 New Zealand Oaks & Gr3 Lowland Stakes) and 6 placings from 24 starts for NZ$411,328 earnings. A half-brother to Savaria (Lot 523) by Niagara will feature in Trelawney Stud's draft at the upcoming NZB Select Sale Yearling Sale.
