Astern Sixth In Trial

Tuesday, 24th January 2017

Star Godolphin colt Astern finished sixth in a 1000 metre barrier trial at Warwick Farm yesterday as he continues to build towards his autumn return. A winner of the Gr1 Golden Rose in the spring, Astern (Medaglia d'Oro-Essaouira, by Exceed and Excel) was given a quiet time by jockey James Doyle who allowed the 3YO to sit behind the leaders before cruising to the line under a tight hold. "He travelled through the trial very well, quickened towards the end and hit the line quite well," Doyle told Godolphin.com. "He was nice and relaxed and moving great." Doyle added: "He's a colt with a lot of strength and class, it's easy to understand why the stable has such an opinion of him." Astern is scheduled to launch his autumn campaign in the Gr1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on 18 February. Click here to watch Astern's trial.
