Humidor Set For Melbourne Debut
Talented New Zealand stayer Humidor (Teofilo-Zalika, by Zabeel) will make his first appearance for champion Victorian trainer Darren Weir in Thursday's Listed John Dillon Stakes at Caulfield, reports NZ Racing Desk. Formerly prepared by Johno Benner and Hollie Wynyard, the 4YO is a winner of 4 of his 10 starts, including the Gr3 Manawatu Classic as a 3YO. Humidor's abundant potential was then on show when he finished a narrow second in the Gr1 Livamol Classic (2000m) in the spring, before crossing the Tasman for a luckless ninth in the Gr1 Cantala Stakes (1600m) at Flemington. His New Zealand owners John and Mark Carter and their sister Rachael, who race under their Jomara Bloodstock banner, then sold 50 per cent to clients of Weir's stable. "He's a new horse to us. He's just a good galloper," Darren Weir said. "He and Real Love are on an Australian Cup path, and Tosen Stardom will join in a fortnight later in the Carlyon Cup at Caulfield." The $1.5 million Gr1 Australian Cup (2000m) will be run at Flemington on 11 March.
