James Keen To See Filly On Big Stage

Wednesday, 25th January 2017

Roger James is favouring Ellerslie as the venue for the next appearance of his smart debut winner Monrecour (Zacinto-Udiditagain, by D'Cash), reports NZ Racing Desk. The Cambridge trainer has accepted for today's NZB Insurance Pearl Series Race at Avondale, but Sunday is his preferred option. Monrecour caught James off guard when she was successful at the Te Aroha trials last month before she repeated the dose on race day at Tauranga. "I've nominated her for the special conditions 1400 and that's where she'll go if she gets in," James said. "She surprised me in her trial because she hadn't showed anything out of the ordinary, but her trial was the quickest of the day including Xtravagant." Monrecour is a daughter of Inglewood Stud's beautifully bred Gr2-winning & Gr1-placed stallion Zacinto (Dansili-Itacha, by Distant View), sire of last season's Gr1 New Zealand 2000 guineas winner Ugo Foscolo. Zacinto's Gr3-placed dam Ithaca is a daughter of dual Gr1-winner Reams Of Verse, whose half-sister Midsummer produced Champion UK mare Midday (6 Gr1 victories).
