Chetwood Ready For The Big Time
Godolphin are hoping that Chetwood can make the transition from promising young sprinter to genuine weight-for-age performer in the autumn when he kicks off his campaign in the Gr2 Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley tomorrow night. The 4YO announced himself as one of the most progressive horses in the country when going through the spring undefeated with 4 wins from as many starts, the most recent in the Listed Weekend Hussler Stakes at Caulfield in October when he was untroubled to score by two lengths. The Exceed And Excel gelding, who hails from the family of champion galloper Grand Armee, boasts an imposing record of 5 wins from 7 starts. "He's been set for this and he's shown us with what he's done at home that he's ready," trainer John O'Shea told Godolphin.com. "All I wanted was to drew out a bit and he's come up with barrier eight which should suit him nicely." He added: "He's trialled very well and this looks an ideal race for him." O'Shea said Chetwood, who will be ridden on Friday by James Doyle, will use the race as a lead-up to the Gr1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on 11 February.
