Manaya Back In Action Saturday

Thursday, 26th January 2017

Talented filly Manaya (Hinchinbrook-Hot 'n' Breezy, by Zephyr Zip) will embark upon a path towards the Melbourne autumn carnival when she resumes in the QTIS 3YO Handicap (1000m) at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday. Manaya, who is a three-quarter sister to brilliant dual Gr1-winning mare Hot Danish, made an auspicious start to her career when storming home from last on the turn to win the Listed Woodlands Stakes (1100m) at Scone in May of last year. But at her only other start, the 3YO pulled up with back soreness when sixth behind Omei Sword in the Gr2 Silver Shadow Stakes on 20 August. "Her work has been pleasing but I haven't really had anything to test her and she was switching off when she was going clear," Gold Coast-based trainer Michael Costa told Racing.com. "Physically, giving her the time off has been a blessing as it has allowed her to grow up." Manaya's Melbourne programme is likely to include starts in the Kevin Hayes Stakes followed by the Angus Armanasco a fortnight later.
