Melham Bullish About Malaguerra

Thursday, 26th January 2017

Jockey Ben Melham is confident Malaguerra (Magnus-Tennessee Morn, by Bletchingly) is ready to run a bold first-up race in tomorrow night's Gr2 Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley. A dual Gr1 winner of the BTC Cup in Brisbane last winter and the Darley Classic in the spring, the Peter Gelagotis-trained Malaguerra hasn't raced since his 5th place finish in the Gr1 Winterbottom Stakes in Perth in November. "I trialled him recently at Moe and actually, the horse looks fantastic - it's the best he's looked for some time," Melham told Racing.com. "It's a very strong edition of the Australia Stakes. It is as strong as I've seen in recent years but he's the class horse of the race so I expect that to take him a long way."
