Winning Rupert Retired To Stud

Thursday, 26th January 2017

Outstanding colt Winning Rupert (Written Tycoon-Winaura, by Show a Heart) has been retired to Newgate Farm following his purchase by a syndicate headed by the leading Hunter Valley nursery and the China Horse Club. "We absolutely believe Winning Rupert was one of the most talented horses in the country and accordingly we will be supporting him with some of our very best mares," said China Horse Club manager, Michael Wallace. Trainer Bjorn Baker commented: "From a training point of view he is the fastest horse I've ever put a saddle on. He was just so natural, we never had to use blinkers or urge him in any way to get him to show us speed. He had raw ability in spades. A gifted athlete." The multiple stakes winning colt built an impressive record of 5 wins from 6 starts, with his only defeat coming in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas eleven days ago. His feature race victories included the Gr2 Champagne Classic, Gr3 Vo Rogue Plate and Listed Gold Edition Plate for $579,500 in earnings. Winning Rupert's racetrack retirement takes effect immediately and he will be prepared to take up stud duties this spring.
