Chrome Ready For Swansong

Friday, 27th January 2017

Meanwhile, California Chrome also acquainted himself with the Gulfstream Park course ahead of his final race start in Saturday's US$12 million Gr1 Pegasus World Cup. "I thought he went great," trainer Art Sherman told Blood Horse. "He looked like he was moving very easily and Dihigi [exercise rider Dihigi Gladney] said he felt great, so that's always super after he comes back and cools out. It was a great morning. He schooled very well in the paddock." Sherman is acutely aware that his time with California Chrome is fast running out, with the two-time US Horse of the Year scheduled to depart for Taylor Made Farm on 29 January to begin his stud career. "We've only got a few more mornings to do what we're doing, so we're going to take advantage of it. Look at him. He's loving it," Sherman said. "After the race we're going to say, 'Hey, listen, it's no more, we're done.' We've had him for three years and it's been great. We really appreciate everything, all the people, and what he's done. It's been one hell of a ride."
