Grande Rosso Wins Listed John Dillon Stakes
At Caulfield in Melbourne, Woodside Park stallion Written Tycoon (Iglesia-Party Miss, by Kenmare) added a black-type success when 5YO gelding Grande Rosso (Written Tycoon-Jestemma, by Rory's Jester) scored by 0.1 length for trainers David & Ben Hayes & Tom Dabernig in the $120,000 Listed John Dillon Stakes (1400m) for 3YO+, over 6YO gelding Tonopah (Rock Hard Ten-Carson's Vanity, by Carson City) & fellow 5YO gelding Duke Of Brunswick (Magnus-Tristabeel, by Zabeel). A $220,000 purchase at the 2013 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Grande Rosso made it consecutive stakes victories to boost his record to 7 wins (including the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes) and 6 placings from 25 starts for $390,210 earnings. Co-trainer Tom Dabernig said Grande Rosso had probably now earned himself a shot at the Gr1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on 11 February. "We might have a throw of the dice and run him in the CF Orr [Gr1] on the 11th [February]," Dabernig told Racing.com. "He probably deserves a crack at a Group One...we will enjoy the ride while it continues."
