Limestone Wins Gr3 Blue Diamond Preview (Fillies)
At Caulfield in Melbourne, Darley's Australian three-time Gr1-winning shuttler Helmet (Exceed and Excel-Accessories, by Singspiel) added a group success when 2YO filly Limestone (Helmet-Limerock, by Charge Forward) scored a narrow 0.1 length win for trainer Darren Weir in the $150,000 Gr3 Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) for 2YO fillies, over fellow juvenile fillies Tulip (Pierro-Musidora, by Rock of Gibraltar) & Chateau Griffo (Sebring-Moulin Rouge, by Commands). A homebred for David Moodie's Hesket Bloodstock, Limestone improved her record to 2 wins and 1 placing from 3 starts for $176,850 earnings. Trainer Darren Weir said he was unsure where Limestone would appear next, but confirmed the Gr2 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) at Caulfield on 11 February was the logical stepping stone to the Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) on 25 February. "Dunno, I've never had a two-year-old like this before," Weir told Racing.com when asked about the filly's next assignment. "She's tough, and the race [Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes] is a month away so I think she would benefit with another run but I'll talk to the owners and see what they want to do." Jockey Damien Lane commented: "She's an absolute ripper. She did a bit wrong today but it's a good sign because it means there is plenty of improvement to come." Limestone is Helmet's second Australian stakes winner and his third worldwide.
