Arrogate Wins Gr1 Pegasus World Cup
Arrogate (Unbridled's Song-Bubbler, by Distorted Humor) confirmed his standing as the world's highest rated racehorse with an emphatic win in the inaugural running of the US$12 million Gr1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Saturday. The much hyped Breeders' Cup Classic rematch between Arrogate and California Chrome failed to materialise with the former stamping his abundant class on proceedings with an authoritative 4.75 length win in what is now the world's richest horse race. Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert commented: "You know, what? He's a superior horse. He's just a great horse," he told Thoroughbred Daily News. "He broke well, as well as he could. He just ran his race. I kept waiting for the matchup with Chrome, but he just didn't bring his race today. It's too bad." By deceased US sire & former Arrowfield shuttler Unbridled's Song (Unbridled-Trolley Song, by Caro), the Juddmonte Farms-owned Arrogate continued on his march towards greatness by advancing his remarkable record to 6 wins and 1 placing from 7 starts for US$11,084,600 in earnings. The powerful grey has now won three races at Gr1 level, namely the Travers Stakes, Breeders' Cup Classic and Pegasus World Cup. Arrogate is the first foal out of multiple stakes winner and Gr3-placed Bubbler. His third dam is champion and six-time Gr1 winner Meadow Star (Meadowlake) and he also hails from the family of dual Gr1 winner Belle Gallantey (After Market).
