Bowman Booked For Spieth

Monday, 30th January 2017

Champion Sydney jockey Hugh Bowman has been confirmed as the rider of exciting sprinter Spieth in the $750,000 weight-for-age Gr1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on 18 February, reports Racing.com. "I'm delighted that Hugh Bowman has committed to the ride for the Lightning," trainer Bryce Heys said. "Hugh is a world-class rider and it is great to get the opportunity for him to ride on the big stage." Spieth (Thorn Park-Stella Livia, by Titus Livius) marked himself as arguably the most promising sprinter in Australia when stringing together five consecutive victories last season, including the Listed City Tattersalls Lightning (1100m) at Randwick, before rounding out his spring campaign with a most unlucky second to Malaguerra in the Gr1 Darley Classic at Flemington. The chestnut recently finished third in a Warwick Farm barrier trial in what will be his only hit-out before the Lightning. "He is ticking over nicely, everything is going to plan at this point so hopefully we get him to Melbourne in good order and then it will be up to the horse," Heys said.
