Music Magnate Wins Gr2 Expressway Stakes
At Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, Woodside Park's Gr2-winning stallion Written Tycoon (Iglesias-Party Miss, by Kenmare) added a Group success when 5YO gelding Music Magnate (Written Tycoon-Concert Girl, by Danehill Dancer) resumed from a break with a dominant 1.3 length win for trainer Bjorn Baker in the $200,000 Gr2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) for 3YO+, over fellow 5YO gelding Kuro (Denman-Distinctive Lass, by Orientate) & 6YO gelding Ball Of Muscle (Dubawi-Parfore, by Gold Brose). Having his first start after missing the spring with a fever, Music Magnate showed he was on track for a prosperous autumn carnival when advancing his record to 7 wins (including the Gr1 Doomben 10,000 & Gr3 Hall Mark Stakes) and 5 placings (including the Listed Luskin Star Stakes & Listed Darby Munro Stakes) from 14 starts for $942,125 earnings. A NZ$45,000 yearling consigned by Westbury Stud at the 2013 NZB National Yearling Sales Series, hails from the family of Gr2 Wellington Guineas winner Marrok, Gr2 AJC St Leger winner Chaleyer, and stakes winner Gypsy Moss, dam of Gr1 Queensland Derby winner Our Planet. Trainer Bjorn Baker was non-committal about Music Magnate's next start, but confirmed his primary autumn target was the $2.5 million Gr1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on 1 April. "We can look at Melbourne but more than likely we'll give him a little bit of a let-up with the main focus the TJ Smith," he told Sky Racing.
