Sir Moments Wins Listed Sunshine Coast Cup

Monday, 30th January 2017

At the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, multiple Gr1-winning shuttler & former star Australian sprinter Choisir (Danehill Dancer-Great Selection, by Lunchtime) added a black-type success when 6YO gelding Sir Moments (Choisir-Colourful Moments, by Zabeel) scored by 0.2 length for trainer Steven O'Dea in the $100,000 Listed Sunshine Coast Cup (1400m) for 3YO+, over fellow 6YO gelding Flamboyer (Clang-Zedatier, by Zeditave) & 4YO gelding In His Stride (Rothesay-In Her Shoes, by Sequalo). A $40,000 purchase by Proven Thoroughbreds at the 2012 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Widden Stud, Sir Moments improved his record to 9 wins (including the Gr2 Queensland Guineas, Listed The Phoenix Stakes, Listed Dalrello Stakes & Listed Daybreak Lover) and 5 placings (including the Gr2 Hollindale Stakes & Listed Phelan Ready Stakes) from 26 starts for $804,050 earnings.  Trainer Steven O'Dea described the win as one of the most satisfying of his career. "I thought he was a Doomben Cup chance when he was second to Leebaz in the Hollindale Cup two years ago but then he got injured on the water walker and didn't make Doomben," O'Dea told racenet. "When we got him back he got sick and spent a couple of weeks at the vets. We got him back again to where he was ready to take on Melbourne class in September but he was ordinary in the Bobbie Lewis Stakes." He added: "But we kept going with him and today was the right grade of race for him. I haven't really thought about his future but rather was concentrating on today. I will have to see what is available here."
