Teaspoon Wins Gr3 Widden Stakes

Monday, 30th January 2017

At Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, Arrowfield Stud's Gr1-winning high profile stallion Snitzel (Redoute's Choice-Snippets' Lass, by Snippets) added a Group success when 2YO filly Teaspoon (Snitzel-Patronella, by Mister C) scored by 0.5 length for trainer Michael Freedman in the $150,000 Gr3 Widden Stakes (1100m) for 2YO fillies, over fellow juvenile fillies Mystic Empire (All Too Hard-Empress Wu, by General Nediym) & Sweet Deal (Casino Prince-Dorothy Evelyn, by Royal Academy). Freedman, who was celebrating his first stakes win since relocating to Sydney from Singapore last year, said Teaspoon will now head towards the $3.5 million Gr1 Golden Slipper at Rosehill on 18 March. "If she gets through today OK we've got a few nice fillies' options leading into possibly the Slipper," Freedman told AAP. A homebred for John Messara's Arrowfield Stud, Teaspoon extended her unbeaten record to 2 wins from 2 starts for $159,750 earnings. Teaspoon is out of the unraced Mister C mare Patronella making her a full sister to Gr3 ATC Epona Stakes winner Aliyana Tilde, and a half-sister to Gr3 South Australia Stakes winner Smytzer's Trish & dual stakes winner Stella Artois, dam of Gr2 SAJC Breeders' Stakes winner Freestyle.
