At Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, Arrowfield Stud's incumbent Champion Australian Sire Snitzel (Redoute's Choice-Snippets' Lass, by Snippets) added a black-type success when richly talented 3YO colt Menari (Snitzel- Isurava, by General Nediym) score an explosive first-up win in the $150,000 Listed Rosebud (1100m) for 3YOs, defeating Siege Of Quebec & Trekking. Menari improved his record to 2 wins and 1 placing (including the Gr3 ATC Canonbury Stakes) from 6 starts for $382,250 in earnings. Menari, a stunning looking colt with a striking white blaze, proved himself to be a sprinter of the highest order and a potential Everest contender with this brilliant victory. Trainer Gerald Ryan confirmed all options were now on the table. "We will play it by ear and see how we go with him but he's a very, very good horse," Ryan told Sky Racing. Although the Gr1 Golden Rose remains a potential target, Ryan said the inaugural $10 million The Everest (1200m) at Royal Randwick on 14 October was the race he has in mind. "I'm thinking Everest. The slot holders have been talking to me," he said. "The best thing about him is that he still has good improvement in him." A homebred for George Altomonte's Corumbene Stud, Menari is by Snitzel out of the stakes-winning mare Isurava (General Nediym-Cut A Dash, by Whisky Road), a full sister to Gr2 Magic Night Stakes winner Ichihara and Listed winner Au Chocolat.
