Makybe Diva Relation Impresses on Debut
A filly from the family of the great Makybe Diva lived up to her pedigree when scoring a brilliant debut win at Otaki yesterday, reports NZ Racing Desk. Pinot Grey (Burgundy-Streaming, by Stravinsky) looked a filly with a very bright future indeed when cruising to an effortless 5 length win in the Mills Reef Winery 2YO (1000m) for rider Cameron Lammas. Trained by Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards, Pinot Grey was purchased for $145,000 by Te Akau principal David Ellis at the 2017 NZB Select Yearling Sale from the draft of Cambridge Stud. Ellis said Pinot Grey could make her stakes debut at her next appearance en route to the Listed Karaka Million (1200m) in January next year. "To buy a filly in January, have her win like she did within ten months and then prepare for a million dollar race - it doesn't get much more exciting," Ellis said. Pinot Grey descends from the same female line as legendary mare and three-time Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva. They both share the same fourth dam, the Vaguely Noble mare Noble Fancy (USA).
