At Royal Randwick in Sydney, a New Year's Day feel-good story occurred when one of the lengthiest non-winners made amends for trainer John O'Shea in the $150,000 Listed Tattersalls Club Cup (2400m). Without a victory since 2013, French-bred 9YO entire Prince Cheri (Lando-Princess Cheri, by Mondrian) hit the front at just the right time to overcome game 5YO gelding Vassal (Dansili-Vituisa, by Bering) and top-weight 9YO gelding Destiny's Kiss (Power of Destiny-A Fairy's Kiss, by Stravinsky). Winner of the Gr3 Kingston Town Stakes back in 2013, Prince Cheri was nonetheless given an eachway chance after finishing in the first four in each of his past three runs, the most recent when third in the Listed Christmas Cup during December. He now has 5 wins & 5 placings from 22 starts for $337,827 earnings.
