Ace High to Trial

Monday, 22nd January 2018

Top-class 3YO Ace High (High Chaparral-Come Sunday, by Redoute's Choice) will make his first public appearance in star-studded barrier trial at Rosehill this morning. A winner of the Gr1 Victoria Derby & Gr1 Spring Champion Stakes in the spring, Ace High will trial over 900m in the opening heat of the morning (8:15am) that will also include champion mare Winx, star sprinter Redzel, and Golden Rose winner Trapeze Artist. Trainer David Payne said Ace High's primary autumn targets are the Randwick Guineas, Rosehill Guineas and Australian Derby in Sydney. "They will be too sharp for him tomorrow but he has got to have a blow out to get him a bit fitter," Payne told ANZ Bloodstock News. "He is quite a lazy bugger and you have to make him work. We swim him as well, so the fitness is there, but he will wear a set of blinkers just to make him focus a bit more." Payne added: "He will race in Sydney first up and it will either be over 1200 metres or 1400 metres and then we’ll get him to the Randwick Guineas, Rosehill Guineas and hopefully the Derby."
