Easy Does It For Redzel

Wednesday, 24th January 2018

Trainers Peter & Paul Snowden say they will give star sprinter Redzel (Snitzel-Millrich, by Rubiton) a slow build-up to the autumn, reports racenet. Redzel, who established himself as the best sprinter in Australia last season, was given an easy time in his 900m trial at Rosehill on Monday finishing seventh behind Golden Rose winner Trapeze Artist. The 5YO is set to launch his autumn campaign in the Gr1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on 17 February, with his primary target the $2.5 million Gr1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on 7 April. "He trialled nicely and jumped and showed his natural speed," Peter Snowden said. "He does well in the paddock but he's a horse you have to bring up very slowly. He's not a horse you want to jam a lot of work into too quickly. We know him quite well now and I was happy with what I saw." Snowden added: "He's pulled up really well from it, all's good. He's an amazing horse to work with and he's certainly given us a great ride and hopefully there is more to come this prep."
