Oh Susanna Wins Gr1 Sun Met

Monday, 29th January 2018

At Kenilworth in South Africa, Darley's deceased shuttler & Gr1 Dubai World Cup winner Street Cry (Machiavellian-Helen Street, by Troy) celebrated an elite race success when 3YO Australian-bred filly Oh Susanna (Street Cry-Sharp Susan, by Touch Gold) announced herself as the new star of South African racing when powering to a brilliant 0.5 length win for trainer Justin Snaith in the R 5 million Gr1 Sun Met (2000m) for 3YO+, defeating Last Winter & Marinaresco. This was an historic win for Oh Susanna who became the first filly to win the Met since Black Bess in 1905. She improved her record to 3 wins (including the Gr1 Paddock Stakes) and 3 placings from 8 starts. Oh Susanna was foaled and raised at Coolmore Stud in the NSW Hunter Valley before being sent to South Africa as a yearling. She is the third winner out of Sharp Susan, a Gr2 winner and Gr1 placegetter in the US who was purchased for $1.05 million by Badgers Bloodstock at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Broodmare Sale.
