Gun Runner Arrives At Three Chimneys
Gun Runner (Candy Ride-Quiet Giant, by Giant's Causeway) arrived safe and sound at his new home of Three Chimneys Farm in Kentucky on Sunday to commence the next chapter of his career, reports Blood Horse. The newly crowned US Horse of the Year ended his career on a high when scoring a memorable win in the US$16 million Gr1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (9 furlongs) at Gulfstream Park on Saturday. The handsome 5YO chestnut retires with a record of 12 wins from 19 starts, including six Group 1 victories in the Pegasus, Breeders' Cup Classic, Stephen Foster Handicap, Whitney Stakes, Woodward Stakes, and Clark Handicap. His staggering career earnings of US$16,037,138 make him the second richest North American thoroughbred of all time, behind only Arrogate with US$17,298,514. "What an exclamation point. For him to win the Breeders' Cup, be crowned Horse of the Year and then win the world's richest race on Saturday is a dream come true," trainer Steve Asmussen said. "The outpouring of support and admiration for him just feels wonderful. And he's in very good hands at Three Chimneys." There will be very little rest for Gun Runner with the 2018 northern hemisphere breeding season scheduled to commence in a fortnight.
