Light Prep for La Diosa

Wednesday, 31st January 2018

The connections of smart Kiwi mare La Diosa will restrict her to a light campaign this season, reports NZ Racing Desk. A winner of the Gr1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas as a 3YO, the now 4YO mare has not been sighted since finishing sixth in the Gr2 Coupland's Bakeries Mile in November. "We've always said that we were never going to over-race her as a four-year-old, she's got nothing to prove," said Mandy Brown, who trains the Group 1 winner with her husband Matt. "We'll take her through an easy season and then see how she comes up as a five-year-old." Brown added: "She's back in work now and doing well. She'll trial at Ashburton on February 20, but we've yet to set any plan after that." By former Champion Australian Racehorse So You Think, La Diosa is out of Gr2 winning Star Way mare Star Affair and hails from the same family as NZ 1000 Guineas winner The Jewel and Gr1 Auckland Cup winner Irish Chance.
