Orr First-Up for Single Gaze

Wednesday, 31st January 2018

Canberra trainer Nick Olive says that top staying mare Single Gaze is thriving ahead of her seasonal reappearance in the Gr1 CF Orr Stakes (1400) at Caulfield on Saturday week. A winner of the Gr1 Vinery Stud Stakes as a 3YO, Single Gaze enjoyed quite a successful campaign in the spring with the highlight being her runner-up performance in the Caulfield Cup before a disappointing 17th place finish in the Melbourne Cup in November. Olive said Single Gaze was likely to campaign in both Melbourne and Sydney in the autumn, with an early target being the $1.5 million Gr1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington on 10 March. "After the campaign and the Melbourne Cup, I didn't know whether we'd bring her back for the autumn," Olive told racenet. "I just thought I'd put her in the paddock and see how she went but she did tremendously well in the five weeks she was there and she's come back in great order...she looks fantastic." Olive added: "She'll start in the Orr, then go to the Peter Young and then the Australian Cup. We'll head off to the Ranvet and The BMW in Sydney if she's going well."
