Lowland Next for Treasure

Wednesday, 21st February 2018

New Zealand Oaks (2400m) favourite Treasure will return to the central districts to finalise her preparation for next month's Trentham feature, reports NZ Racing Desk. An impressive last-start winner of the Listed Oaks Prelude (1800m) at Pukekura, Treasure (Mastercraftsman-Penny Whistle, by O'Reilly) is set to have her final classic lead-up in the Gr3 Little Avondale Stud Lowland Stakes (2100m) at Hastings on Thursday week. "So far so good," trainer Tony Pike said. "We've always had a massive opinion of Treasure, she's just taken a few runs to work things out and the blinkers have helped her." Treasure, who is out of a half-sister to the dam of Pike's Gr1 Auckland Cup winner Chenille, is the new $5 favourite for the Oaks on 17 March after injury forced Dijon Bleu to abandon plans for the race.
