Guineas Start on Line for Age Of Fire

Friday, 23rd February 2018

Top Kiwi colt Age Of Fire will travel to Australia for next month's Randwick Guineas if he perform to expectations at Matamata tomorrow, reports NZ Racing Desk. A last-start winner of the Gr1 Levin Classic (1600m) at Trentham, Age Of Fire will contest The Proisir 1400 and a win will see book a trip to Sydney for the $1 million Gr1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) on 10 March. "We've just been held up by a couple of niggling things with him but Opie [Bosson] rode him this morning [Thursday] at three-quarter pace and was happy with him," co-trainer Jamie Richards said. "We had initially hoped he'd be running in the Hobartville Stakes at Rosehill this weekend, but hopefully he'll be winning at Matamata instead and give us the confidence to head to the Randwick Guineas." Age Of Fire has won three of his six starts and was also second in the Gr1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m) at Riccarton. It was announced last week that Age Of Fire (Fastnet Rock-Dragon's Tail, by Galileo) will stand at New Zealand's iconic Cambridge Stud when he retires.
