At Launceston's Mowbray Racecourse, Vinery's Gr1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile winning stallion Pluck (More Than Ready-Secret Heart, by Fort Wood) added a Group success when ultra-consistent local 4YO mare Life On The Wire (Pluck-Our Seventh Heave, by Vettori) made it five in a row to score by 1.8-lengths for Seven Mile Beach trainer Scott Brunton in the $150,000 Gr3 Vamos Stakes (1400m) for fillies & mares, from Step The Pedal and Gee Gees Top Notch. Allowed to roll to the front, Life On The Wire appeared in cruise control and easily kicked clear turning for home. Ironically, last year's Vamos Stakes is her only blemish in a promising career to date, one which has not been contained to Tasmania. Her two most recent starts both resulted in victories at Sandown in Melbourne late last year. The win is Life On The Wire's first at stakes level, having finished runner-up in last year's Listed Tasmanian Guineas and Listed Hobart Guineas. She now has 7 wins & 4 placings from 13 starts for $254,925. Life On The Wire (Pluck-Our Seventh Heaven, by Vettori) is from the immediate family of the Brunton-trained stakes winners Life To The Full (Listed Tasmanian Newmarket) and What Life Brings (Listed Hobart Guineas). The result was another great example of the value to be had at the annual Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale, Life On The Wire being a $10,000 yearling graduate.
