At Caulfield in Melbourne, Jindera Park's Gr1-winning stallion Duporth (Red Ransom-Staging, by Success Express) added a Group race success when 3YO Australian-bred gelding (Duporth-Graces Spirit, by Flying Spur) opened his stakes account with a defiant front-running win in the $200,000 Gr2 Autumn Classic (1800m) for 3YOs, defeating Astoria & Mr So And So. Valiant Spirit is out of a half-sister to Gr1 winning sprinter and sire Turffontein and is a half-brother to Gr3 ATC Epona Stakes winner Vergara. This is the prolific Betty Box (IRE) family of VRC Derby winner Hit The Roof, Gr1 Railway Handicap winner Alynda, and Gr3 winning sire Fast 'N' Famous. Valiant Spirit improved his record to 3 wins and 4 placings from 9 starts for $179,165 in earnings. Trainer Daniel Williams said he will consider running Valiant Spirit in the Gr1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington on 10 March en route to the Gr1 Rosehill Guineas and Gr1 Australian Derby in Sydney.
