Brave Smash Eyeing Newmarket

Tuesday, 27th February 2018

The connections of Brave Smash are considering running him in next month's Gr1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) to boost his commercial stud value, reports racing.com. Trained by Darren Weir on behalf of a syndicate headed by Australian Bloodstock and Mt Hallowell Stud, the Japanese-bred Brave Smash landed the biggest prize of his career when scoring a brilliant win in last weekend's Gr1 Futurity (1400m) at Caulfield. "It's an important decision because if he could win a Newmarket, the  numbers [his value] will change and so commercially we have to be conscious of that now because after the weekend we've had some inquiries from studs," said part-owner Jamie Lovett of Australian Bloodstock. "Our job is to get the best result for the owners and certainly from the horse's perspective, he's only hitting his form so we're duty bound to at least have a look at a race like that." Lovett said a win in the Newmarket would also go a long way to securing Brave Smash a slot in The Everest later in the year. The $1.25 million Gr1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) will be run at Flemington on 10 March.
