Hey Doc On The Mend

Tuesday, 27th February 2018

Trainer Tony McEvoy has revealed the reason behind Hey Doc's disappointing first-up performance in the Gr1 Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington. "He spread his legs at the start and he's strained his pectoral muscles," McEvoy told racenet. "He's sore in his chest. We've treated him to settle the inflammation." He added: "At the time we were disappointed obviously but once he'd cooled down we could see he was tender in the chest area." McEvoy said it was still his intention to run Hey Doc in the $1.25 million Gr1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on 10 March. "The physio has done some work on him and will look at him again this week. If he hasn't come right I won't run him in the Newmarket but if he's fine we'll push on," he said.
