More Gr1 Glory Awaits Devise

Tuesday, 27th February 2018

The weather will determine the race in which classy Kiwi mare Devise (Darci Brahma-Doneze Girl, by Volksraad) makes her next appearance, reports NZ Racing Desk. The Oaks Stud-owned 4YO fulfilled the potential her connections always believed she possessed when landing last weekend's Gr1 WFA Classic (1600m) at Hastings. Trainer Shaune Ritchie said Devise's next assignment would be either the $1.5 million Gr1 Australian Cup at Flemington or the $200,000 Gr1 Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes at Ellerslie on 10 March. Both races are run over 2000 metres and at weight-for-age level. "There are two options for her. She still holds a nomination for the Australian Cup at Flemington, which is the same day as the Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes," Ritchie said. "Her training regime will be exactly the same wherever we go. The worry is a wet track at Ellerslie and Flemington dries extremely well so we would have no concerns there." Ritchie added: "She's already climbed the biggest mountain here [in New Zealand] with that Group One win so it would be interesting to see where she sits over in Australia...a placing in the Australian Cup would hold more stead for her future breeding career than another Group One win here."
