Price Bullish About Grunt

Tuesday, 27th February 2018

Trainer Mick Price continues to talk up the chances of Grunt ahead of Saturday's Gr1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington. The New Zealand-bred colt announced himself as one of the rising stars of the 3YO ranks when resuming with a strong win in the Gr3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) at Flemington last start. Grunt (O'Reilly-Ruqqaya, by Van Nistelrooy), who has now won 3 of his 4 starts, is currently the $5.50 TAB second favourite for the Australian Guineas behind the Darren Weir-trained Cliff's Edge ($4.50). "What he did to win in Adelaide shows he'll be hard to beat on Saturday and he is right up there for me," Price told racing.com. "He's also showed he likes Flemington and he will relish the 1600 metres and is even looking for further." Victory in the Guineas will make Grunt a highly valuable and sought after stud prospect. Not only is he a son of multiple champion New Zealand sire O'Reilly, but he is out of a half-sister to 5-time Gr1 winner and Cox Plate hero Ocean Park.
