Dual Arc Winner Delivers Second Foal

Friday, 9th March 2018

A present better than most that you'll find under a Christmas tree greeted the Al Shaqab foaling team in Clarbec, France, earlier this week when dual Arc-winning mare Treve delivered her second foal at Haras de Bouquetot, reports racingpost.com. Weighing in at a solid 55kg, the filly is by dual Gr1 winning 2YO and flagship Al Shaqab stallion Shalaa (an Arrowfield Stud shuttler), a son of one of the world's most dominant speed-driven current sirelines in Invincible Spirit. Treve, one of only five racehorses ever to have claimed the rare double of consecutive Arcs, and the first since Alleged in 1977/78, last February gave birth to her first foal, by Darley's goliath Dubawi. Al Shaqab has rightly invested serious broodmare power behind Shalaa with over 30 elite mares from its boutique band set to visit the stallion this season. Benoit Jeffroy, Haras de Bouquetot manager, commented on the Shalaa foals, "We're delighted with Shalaa's first foals, which he stamps a lot. His foals really stand out, with size, a lot of depth, strong backs and plenty of quality." Of course, the birth of Treve's second foal holds additional significance given the recent retirement announcement by her Champion Trainer Criquette Head-Maarek.
