US Gr1-Winner Eskendereya To Stud At Taylor Made
In the US, this season's dominant Gr1 Wood Memorial Stakes-winning 3YO colt Eskendereya (Giant's Causeway-Aldebaran Light, by Seattle Slew) "who was injured as he prepared for the Gr1 Kentucky Derby, will begin his stud career in 2011 at Taylor Made Stallions in Kentucky," reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Jess Jackson (who purchased "an undisclosed amount" of Eskendereya from Ahmed Zayat as a stallion prospect) enthused: "Eskendereya was widely considered to be the best of his generation. He has a royal pedigree & beautiful conformation. His pedigree contains many of the top sires of the past 50 years & is noteworthy for quality, depth & stamina. His female pedigree, top & bottom, is a 6x6x6x6 to Almahmoud, one of the greatest progenitors of standing sires in America." Eskendereya (a half-brother to UK Gr1-winning WA Lynward Park Stud shuttler Balmont) was early favourite for the Kentucky Derby when withdrawn on April 25 "with what turned out to be a soft tissue injury to his left front leg" & was retired from racing on May 7. Eskendereya won all 3 of his starts as a 3YO, including the Gr2 Fountain Of Youth Stakes by 8.5-lengths & Gr1 Wood Memorial by 9.75-lengths. He also won the Listed Pilgrim Stakes as a 2YO & overall notched 4 wins from 6 starts for US$725,700 earnings. Leading West Australian bloodstock agent John Chalmers announced dual Gr3-winning & Gr1-placed Evergreen Lodge shuttler Trade Fair (Zafonic-Danefair, by Danehill) has been purchased by a WA-based syndicate including Ted van Heemst’s Lynward Park Stud (which will hold the majority of shares) & the 4 breeders who initially leased the horse for his 3 previous seasons (Bellbridge Park, Kentville, Kintore Stud & Toreby Park). Trade Fair (whose 1st northern hemisphere crop produced 15 individual winners & 12 place-getters from 46 starters in Europe during 2009) was in quarantine in Victoria preparing to return to England’s Tweenhills Stud (which has been granted 1st rights to shuttle the horse to the Northern Hemisphere from 2011).
