Inglis Auction For Fire And Flood Victims Starts Today
An online auction of stallion nominations to raise funds for victims of the Victorian Bushfires and Queensland floods will begin this Monday, April 20, from 9am. According to , the auction company has developed a completely new online auction website in order to conduct this type of auction. The auction is being conducted with the support of NSW-based volunteers Heather Studdy, Yatama Stud and Tristan Bryan, Meridian Estate Warmblood Stud. The proceeds will be donated to Project Hope Horse Welfare Victoria (PHHWV) to assist owners of all types of horses that are still suffering from the effects of the Victorian Bushfires and Queensland Floods. Approximately 250 stallion nominations or services from at least 24 different horse breeds have been donated by a wide range of stud farms in a united effort from the equine industry to support their own community in troubled times. Although the majority of the horses offered so far are from pleasure and performance breeds such as Arabians, Warmbloods, Quarter Horses and Welsh Ponies - which is where the idea started - there are 23 thoroughbred sires represented including Barely A Moment, Undoubtedly, Desert Sun, Tuscanos, Murphy's Blue Boy, Umatilla, Half Hennessy, Brief Truce, Top Marc and Manner Hill. The 2009 Autumn Sale in Melbourne has attracted a catalogue of 373 yearlings. The sale is set to be sold on April 26-27 at Oaklands. Acknowledged as one of the bargain sales on the Australian calendar, Inglis Autumn graduates to have sold for under $20,000 include Gr1 winners Pompeii Ruler, Grand Journey & Lazer Sharp. Among the proven sires represented by progeny are Bel Esprit, General Nediym, Hussonet, Rock Of Gibraltar, Secret Savings, Street Cry, Tale Of The Cat, Testa Rossa and the promising young sires Charge Forward, Elvstroem, Reset and Shamardal. Coolmore shuttler Tale Of The Cat (Storm Cat-Yarn, by Mr Prospector) added a Gr1 triumph & jockey Steven King landed his 50th Gr1 success when 5YO sprinting mare Glamour Puss (Tale Of The Cat-Centenaire, by Centaine) won the $500,000 Gr1 Salinger Stakes (1200m) at Flemington. Glamour Puss (trained by Danny O'Brien) defeated multiple Gr1-winning 4YO entire Barely A Moment (Gilded Time-Lady Danna, by Danehill) & HK-based multiple Gr1-winning 8YO gelding Cape Of Good Hope (Inchinor-Cape Merino, by Clantime). Glamour Puss now has 7 wins (also including the Gr1 Goodwood Handicap over 1200m at Morphettville in May & Gr3 Sapphire Stakes over 1200m at Randwick in March) & 7 placings (including a last start 2nd in the Gr3 Gilgai Stakes at Flemington on October 1 & runner-up in the Gr1 Robert Sangster Stakes in February) in 18 starts for $889,521 prize-money.
