Queensland's Racetree Stud-based stallion & US Gr1-winning juvenile Greenwood Lake (Meadowlake-Au Printemps, by Dancing Champ) recorded his 1st Australian winner when 2YO filly Kate's Message (Greenwood Lake-Betty Blockbuster, by Zabeel) scored on debut over 1350m at Ipswich in Queensland yesterday for trainer Kelly Schweida. Kate's Message was a $100,000 yearling at the 2009 Premier Sale on the Gold Coast.

Florida 2YOs: $2.3m Distorted Humor Colt
Kentucky bloodstock agent John Moynihan (acting on behalf of Kendall-Jackson wine magnate Jess Jackson's Stonestreet Stables) out-bid Kaleem Shah (sitting with trainer Bob Baffert) to pay top price of US$2.3 million for a colt by former Grand Lodge Thoroughbreds shuttler Distorted Humor (out of multiple Gr1-winning 16-year-old A.P.Indy mare Tomisue's Delight) at the Fasig-Tipton Florida Select 2YOs-In-Training Sale at Calder Race Course in Miami. The colt's dam Tomisue's Delight is a half-sister to both US Horse-Of-The-Year & sire Mineshaft, plus Queensland-based Racetree Farm's Gr3-winning former Coolmore-Willowbend Stud shuttler Monashee Mountain. Moynihan told bloodhorse.com: "We're swinging for the fences (at that price) & I think we have the right kind of horse to do it with. The biggest reason we bought him was that even though we've got some nice horses at the farm, we didn't want to run against him. We love the horse. He just has it all. He has an amazing mind. He reminds me of (2007 & 2008 US Horse-Of-The-Year) Curlin." The Kentucky-bred colt (consigned by Stacy Yagoda & Jill Julian's new pin-hooking partnership Two Beaches) is a half-brother to last season's Gr1-winner Mr Sidney & clocked 10.6sec for 1 furlong during the pre-sale breeze-up session. Yagoda (formerly married to Florida pin-hooker Ricky Leppala) declared: "I'm finally even on wine! I've been supporting (Jackson) for years." Julian previously trained horses for (& was a long-time business partner of) another pin-hooker Carl Bowling & the 2 women purchased the Distorted Humor colt (in the name of On The Sly) for US$200,000 at the 2009 Keeneland September yearling auction. Yagoda noted: "He was immature & fat, but he had all the right parts & he had presence"; she said the colt's price was sweet redemption adding: "We've had some hard years. There were lots of personal issues for us."

In Europe, regally-bred US Gr1-winning 5YO stallion Mr Sidney (Storm Cat-Tomisue's Delight, by A.P.Indy) “will enter stud at Alec Head's Haras du Quesnay in Normandy in France at a fee of €9,000 (A$14,400)” reported racingpost.com. In the UK, Queensland's Racetree-based former shuttle stallion Monashee Mountain (Danzig-Prospectors Delite, by Mr Prospector) added a black-type success when Irish-bred 7YO gelding Fullandby (Monashee Mountain-Ivory Turner, by Efisio) scored by a head in the £50,000 (A$90,000) Listed Wentworth Stakes (6 furlongs) at Doncaster. Fullandby (ridden by Alan Munro for trainer Tim Etherington) defeated 5YO gelding Arthur’s Edge (Diktat-Bright Edge, by Danehill Dancer) & 3YO filly Lovely Thought (Dubai Destination-Fairy Flight, by Fairy King). Magic Millions August: $550k Impulsive Dream
In Australia, Victorian-based bloodstock agent Bill Mitchell (acting on behalf of Sean Buckley's Ultra Thoroughbreds) paid top price of $550,000 for dual group-placed 3YO filly Impulsive Dream (Encosta de Lago-Fayfa, by Slip Anchor) during yesterday's 1-day August Thoroughbred Sale at the Gold Coast in Queensland. Impulsive Dream (who has not been to stud) was consigned by Racetree Breeding Stock as part of an unreserved reduction. As a juvenile last season, Impulsive Dream finished runner-up in the Gr2 QTC Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm & 3rd in the Gr2 Darley Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben; she will now head to Melbourne & join the Lee Freedman stable. Mitchell commented: "She's been in work up here (Queensland) for a month & she was entered for all of the big races in Melbourne. So she would be aimed at races like the Gr1 Thousand Guineas & Gr1 (VRC) Oaks. A filly like this was always going to make a high price. Considering buyers spend more on yearlings - she looks a great buy at the price. We know she can gallop: she's already group-performed as a 2YO & she should only get better as she matures. She's by Encosta de Lago & has a great pedigree."

Magic Millions August: 88% Clearance Rate
Overall at yesterday's August Sale, 156 lots sold for $2,449,250 at an average $15,700 & a healthy 88% clearance rate. Magic Millions managing director David Chester described it as the "best ever" August Sale & noted: "The bidding was spirited for much of the day, particularly the quality well-sought-out lots. There was great interest, a good crowd & considering the economy I would declare the sale as one of the strongest we've conducted in 2009. The vendors were particularly pleased & I know Kevin Dixon was thrilled with the prices achieved with his unreserved Racetree draft."

Racetree Open Day On July 26
Emerging Queensland stud farm Racetree will hold its stallion open day on Sunday, July 26 commencing at 10.30am. Established by Kevin Dixon at Peter & Wendy Moran's former Noble Park property (nursery of star sprinting filly Gold Edition & 2006 Golden Slipper runner-up Pure Energy) Racetree is in the picturesque Innisplain Valley close to Beaudesert. The open day will also feature an opportunity to view some of the mares listed for a reduction sale to be conducted by at the Gold Coast on Sunday August 16. The consignment includes 59 mares, 37 of them owned by the stud and 22 by clients, 4 fillies & 13 of the 2008 foals, yearlings on August 1. Monashee Mountain Adds 45 Winners In 2 Months
The progeny of Queensland's Racetree-based former shuttle stallion Monashee Mountain (Danzig-Prospectors Delite, by Mr Prospector) "are on a roll & the stallion's owner Kevin Dixon just about needs an atlas to see where they are winning" declared The Courier-Mail. Last month Monashee Mountain had 24 winners in 5 countries (Australia, US, Canada, Italy & Great Britain) & so far this month he has added 21 winners in Australia, US, Italy & Great Britain. US-bred 12-year-old Monashee Mountain (who entered stud in 2001) stood initially in Ireland & then in Kentucky & California when owned by Coolmore, while shuttling to Australia to stand at Beaudesert-based Willowbend Stud. Last year Dixon purchased him for his Innisplain-based Racetree stud (also in the Beaudesert district) & Monashee Mountain's extensive travelling "has meant he has had runners on both sides of the Atlantic & Pacific, while from his time in Ireland his progeny have worked their way into Europe" with Dixon noting recent reports that "he had runners in Turkey & the Czech Republic". Among his latest successes was his 9th black-type winner Slater's Peanuts at Prairie Meadows in Iowa in the US. Monashee Mountain is standing the 2009 Australian breeding season at Racetree for $8,800.

Leading Queensland stud farm Racetree has announced its stallion fees for 2009. In making the announcement, Racetree managing director & recently recently elected foundation chairman of the newly formed Brisbane Race Club, Kevin Dixon, noted: "Again payment on live foal (for all 4 stallions) is still a winner for us, it gives clients that bit of room to move financially. Monashee Mountain Coup For Racetree
Queensland stud farm Racetree has secured ownership of former shuttler Monashee Mountain (Danzig-Prospectors Delite, by Mr Prospector) "for an undisclosed figure from Coolmore Stud". The sire of 167 winners of 420 races around the world (including Gr1 Stradbroke winner La Montagna), Monashe Mountain commenced his stallion career in 2001 (in both Ireland & Australia) & shuttled to Willowbend Stud until 2006 (before missing the 2007 Australian season). Racetree managing director Kevin Dixon said Monashee Mountain (who is standing the 2008 northern hemisphere season in California) is not expected to shuttle overseas; however Coolmore has negotiated an option with Racetree on the northern hemisphere standing rights. Dixon noted: "Racetree was looking for an additional stallion to complement our quality stallion roster. In identifying a stallion we particularly wanted a proven Queensland stallion that would have an established following & an immediate demand from broodmare owners. Monashee Mountain fits this description precisely. As if to validate our view, Monashee Mountain celebrated his impending return to Queensland with a winning double at last Saturday's Gold Coast races." Monashee Mountain will join Greenwood Lake, Hotel Grand & Top Marc at Racetree in 2008, where his fee will be $11,100.

Hotel Grand Joins Racetree Roster
Queensland's Innisplain-based Racetree has added dual Gr1-winning 4YO stallion Hotel Grand (Grand Lodge-Terrestial, by Star Watch) to its 2007 roster "in a multi-million dollar deal, with stake-holders to include his original owners & a major Queensland client of Racetree". Racetree managing director Kevin Dixon commented: "It's not every day you can add a multiple Gr1-winner of Australian classic races to your stallion roster. Hotel Grand will have great appeal to breeders: his racetrack performance was outstanding & he is a magnificently conformed horse, very much in the classic style. He is the sort of horse most breeders & owners can only dream about having in their paddocks." Hotel Grand (trained by Anthony Cummings) won both last season's Gr1 Royal Randwick Guineas (1600m) & Gr1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m), as well as Newcastle's Gr3 Spring Stakes (1600m); overall he recorded 3 wins & a placing (in the 2005 Listed Dulcify Quality over 1800m) from 9 starts for $598,860 prize-money. Hotel Grand's dam Terrestial (a winning mare from the lone crop of Gr1 Golden Slipper winner Star Watch) has also produced Gr1 winner Outback Prince. Hotel Grand is by ill-fated former Woodlands Stud shuttler Grand Lodge (Chief's Crown-La Papagena, by Habitat) whose 55 stakes-winners include international stars Sinndar, Grandera, Grand Zulu, Freemason & Shamdala. Magic Millions Day-7: $140k Success Express Filly
In the auction ring, Toowoomba trainer Ron Maund (acting for his major client, the O'Brien family's Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm) paid the Day-7 top price (& set a new Sessions 6-8 record) of $140,000 for a filly by Vinery sire Success Express (the 8th foal from US 2YO-winning Dayjur mare Garden Flower) during yesterday's 2nd-last session at the 8-day yearling sale on the Queensland Gold Coast. The filly was consigned by Racetree as agent & Maund (who prepares star 3YO filly & $1.8 million-earner Gold Edition for the O'Briens) commented: "I really like Success Express as a sire. She was a well-presented filly & she has most things I look for in a yearling. This filly wasn't too big & she wasn't too small: we thought she was pretty special." The filly's dam Garden Flower is a half-sister to US Gr1-winner & multiple Gr1-placed Talinum; & her previous foals include unraced Kingmambo mare Rosa Carolina (dam of 5-time-winner & Gr3-placed Readyforcatherine).

US Gr1-Winning Sire Greenwood Lake To Aust
US Gr1-winning 9YO stallion Greenwood Lake (Meadowlake-Au Printemps, by Dancing Champ) has been sold to Queensland's Racetree (formerly Noble Park), reported bloodhorse.com. Greenwood Lake formerly stood for a syndicate at Margaux Farm in Kentucky; his oldest runners are 4YOs & include Mexican Triple Crown-winning filly She's A Lady Race plus 4 stakes-placed runners. Greenwood Lake was among the top 2YOs of 1999, winning the US Gr1 Champagne Stakes & Gr2 Remsen Stakes, as well as runner-up in the Gr1 Futurity Stakes.
