Rena's Lady Wins Gr1 AJC Oaks
Lomar Park's stallion Arena (Danehill-Lee's Bid, by Tawfiq) added another major Gr1 Group success when filly Rena's Lady (Arena-Boisterous Lady, by Rivotious) won yesterday's $660,000 Gr1 AJC Oaks (2400m) for 3YO fillies at Randwick. The victory was her 2nd in 5 days, following her win last Saturday in the $150,000 Gr3 Adrian Knox Quality Stakes (2000m) for fillies at Randwick. The Adrian Knox is often a good pointer for the Oaks, and so it turned out, with Perfect Drop (Quest For Fame-Dane Vintage, by Danzero) again forced to chase the winner home. Michael Rodd, riding Rena's Lady for trainer Gary Portelli, rode a brilliant race by slowing the pace down and forcing backmarking favourites Tuesday Joy (Carnegie-Joie Denise, by Danehill) and Banc De Fortune to attempt to come from behind on a track which left a lot of runners on the day floundering. Tuesday Joy's class allowed her to just snatch 3rd. The win took Rena's Lady's overall record to 3 wins and 3 placings from 19 starts for earnings of $505,570.

Rising 2YO Singapore Star By Arena
Meanwhile, another young stallion continuing to make waves is Lomar Park's Arena (Danehill-Lee's Bid, by Tawfiq). With big things expected of his daughter Regal Cheer, heroine of last season's Gr1 STC Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens, Arena appears to have a rising 2YO star in Singapore. The Mohd Yusof trained-Vegas Star, an $11,000 yearling at the 2005 Sires Produce Sale) maintained his unbeaten record when landing the Singapore $200,000 Gr3 Juvenile Championship (1200m) at Kranji racecourse on Friday night. Facing the starter for the second time, the gelded son of Arena settled back in the field, while the leaders were setting a cracking pace up in front. Rival trainer, John Meagher was astounded with the win, stating that, "2YOs just don't do that! That was an incredible performance, what a horse!" Vegas Star will now be spelled, with the aim of preparing him for a 3YO campaign that will encompass the prestigious Singapore Derby. Arena is standing the 2006 season for $13,750.

Inglis Day-1: $200,000 Galileo Filly
Owner-breeder Dr Edmund Bateman paid top price of $200,000 for a filly by young Coolmore sire Galileo (out of Marauding mare Queen's Suite) during yesterday's opening session of the 2-day Classic Yearling Sale at Newmarket in Sydney. The filly (offered by Fred Peisah's Werombi-based Lomar Park Stud) will head into training with Clarry Connors at Warwick Farm. Bateman commented: "We thought she was a very good sort to race, with potential to breed from her afterwards. And Peisah added: "After so many years (39 years selling at Inglis) I always enjoy the challenge. She was outstanding & created a lot of interest, which I guess is a vindication of all the work you put in; but I don't necessarily think it's a measure: it's nice for them to go on & win a race."
