Covetous Euthanased At Macquarie Aged 28
Former champion Luskin Star's 1st-crop stallion Covetous (Luskin Star-Admire, by Winged Beauty) "was put down at his birth place Macquarie Stud in Wellington" this week aged 28, reported The Sydney Morning Herald. Studmaster David Baxter confirmed Covetous "was suffering from old age & was humanely euthanased". He was bought out of the paddock by the late Robert Sangster as a 3-month-old foal & subsequently notched 3 wins from 10 starts befoire retiring to Macquarie. His star performers were $1.3 million-earner St Covet (winner of both the Gr1 AJC Sires' Produce Stakes & Gr1 Caulfield Guineas, plus runner-up in the 1994 Golden Slipper) & fellow $1.3 million-earner With Me (8 wins including the Gr1 Oakleigh Plate, plus runner-up in the 1990 Golden Slipper).

Sushisan (a $25,000 weanling at the 2003 Inglis Easter Select Sale) is now aiming at the Gr1 Dubai Sheema Classic (2400m) on this month's World Cup card at Nad Al Sheba.

Pure Theatre Service To Queen Of The North Winner
Iskander Racing has linked with Port MacQuarie Race Club & is offering a free service to stallion Pure Theatre (Nureyev-A Goodlookin Broad, by Broad Brush) for the winner of the $40,000 Class 6 Port MacQuarie Panthers Queen Of The North Stakes (1200m) for fillies on February 14. Pure Theatre (who last season covered covered 119 mares in his 2nd year) stands at Oaklands Stud in Queensland for $5,500 alongside boom sire Iglesia (Last Tycoon-Yodells, by Marscay).
